Abstract
“Women centric laws” is a very controversial topic in our society, regarding this opinion varies from person to person. This article focuses on the misuse of gender-specific statutory provisions in our country and throws light on its causes and consequences through various case laws. It attempts to explore the extent of this problem and finally explains why it is extremely important to have gender-neutral laws. The purpose of this article is to determine whether certain laws in India need to be changed from gender-specific to gender-neutral. It describes the abuse of gender-specific legislation in India, stressing the importance of gender neutrality and gender-neutral laws.
Women-centric laws are made for the benefit of women who are considered as oppressed members of the society. However, these laws must also be viewed from a different and broader perspective. Laws that apply to abuse of women do not apply to abuse of men, reflecting inequalities in the legal system. There is no doubt that women overtake men in terms of being victims, but many false accusations are made against innocent men as well. In recent years, it has been noted that there has been a significant increase in women filing false cases against men who never commit crimes against them, such as false domestic violence claims, sexual assault and even sexual assault, false rape cases too.
