COMPENSATION TO VICTIMS OF DELHI RIOT: A CRITICAL STUDY

Abstract When the unfortunate Delhi Riots took place, it shook the inner conscience of every concerned individual. Further worse was the gloomy state of affairs which the victims had to go through and how there has been no major change in the status quo lately. Though authorities have advocated the need to felicitate the compensation disbursement mechanism with immediate effect however, somewhere in between is discrepancies that raises eyebrows. From pending of compensation claims to inappropriate disbursements; the loopholes are transparent at various junctures and at some it is the need of the hour to pierce the veil and protect victim from entering into the vicious cycle of Re-victimization. It is pertinent to advocate the fact that under no circumstance the riot victims can be considered to be on equal pedestal with other citizens who are living in peace and harmony without any hurdle of any kind. With such approach in consideration, through this paper an attempt has been made to draw attention towards importance of compensation and the facet as to how lacuna and discrepancy in procedures raises serious concern of violations ranging from right of equality to right to life of the victims. |
