Abstract
The corporate world continues to suffer from the prevalent disputes between shareholders. It definitely is not a phenomenon specific to India but is and has always been a universal problem. Allegations by the minority shareholders against the majority reverberate in courtrooms throughout the world. Indian laws provide for various reliefs for oppression and mismanagement but how effective they are is a point of debate. This paper highlights the issues and challenges of the minority shareholder. However, further measures are needed to improve minority shareholder protection, support a higher degree of transparency and disclosure, and promote greater accountability of controlling shareholders.
